How Friends Are Made (PsOP)

Friday Night, July 15th, seemed to be a normal night at the park. We went to the park after dinner to meet new people and let the kids "burn off" some of their energy (energy that is a distant memory).

While we were there, anywhere actually, our children always cause a crowd to form, but July 15th was special. Through the monkey bars, I could see our middle daughter timidly speaking to a local mother and daughter. The sounds of kids screaming and teeter-totters "teeting" prevented me from hearing the conversation, so I move in closely to monitor the situation.

Now, what some may "see" as nothing, in this instance, it was something; that something was our daughter's glasses. They admired our daughters glasses. I joined the conversation and learned the daughter (we can refer to her as "Bonnie") is learning violin and her mother speaks perfect English. "Bonnie" is musically inclined, speaks some English, and has a beautiful singing voice. While we were standing there, in the middle of the cacophony of laughter, screams, and squeaking swing sets, a small, equally timid, ten year old national girl begins the sing the anthem of the 2008 Olympics. Almost everyone in the park stopped what they were doing so they could hear this beautiful little girl sing.

We exchanged phone numbers with this family and we hope this turns out to be a good relationship; a relationship that started because our daughter disregarded her shyness and opened up to another, equally shy, little girl.

  2. Hey... We hope all is well with you guys... It is kinda "clean"... Really odd to see kids get out of a $80k BMW and pee on the sidewalk in front of Dunkin' Donuts.
